Great Parkland Course with Nice Mountain Views
"Butte Creek is a classic parkland course styled setup. Large trees, flowing creeks, 4 great par 3's compliment this standard 72 par set-up. Smaller-sized greens make for a challenging second/third shot; new bunkering added in fall of 2006 creates great tee shot challenge and terrific shot framing. Greens usually roll at about 9. Staff and Pro are very nice as is the welcoming membership. Clubhouse is well kept and offers a nice pre or post game dining experience. I think you will enjoy Butte Creek no matter your golf experience or playing capability. Anyone going to Chico ought to make it a priority to play a round (or two)."

Course Description
The 18 hole championship golf course at Butte Creek Country Club opened in 1965 and was designed by Bob Baldock, one of the most prolific golf course architects throughout the United States in the 1960’s. The layout is long, open and well maintained by mature oak trees. The championship tees play to 6977 yards, while the additional four tees can accommodate any playing level. The course rating is 73.3 and it has a slope rating of 131 on Bermuda grass fairways and Bent grass greens.
Playing a round is reminiscent of walking through a spectacular park on a beautiful day with its various displays of nature. The course's layout supports both riders and walkers. Our short distances from tee-to-green and overall flat terrain facilitate sub-four hour rounds. Our golf memberships are limited to 400 so you will not have any problems playing when you want.

The course is available for play Tuesday-Sunday and most holidays.
Men's Day is celebrated every Wednesday, and entitles playing privileges to male members only and their guests from the opening of the course until 12:00pm. Thereafter, all members may use the course. Ladies Day is celebrated every Thursday, and entitles playing privileges to female members only and their guests from the opening of the course until 12:00pm. History
Soon after World War II, it became apparent to the golfers of this community that Bidwell Golf Course would never be able to accommodate everyone who wanted to play golf.
The search for enough ground to build a championship golf course (and subdivision) was on. The search was spearheaded by Jim Roth, native Chicoan, real-estate broker, subdivider and golfer. He enlisted the help of Ross Lawler, real estate broker, subdivider and non-golfer.
During the search for land, Hugh Baber, Manager of the huge Llano Seco Ranch (Parrott Grant) was contacted. He helped Jim and Ross contact Count Marc de Tristan, President of the Parrott Corporation. After many conferences, trips to the Bay area and meetings with the Count, the Parrott Investment Company agreed to sell enough acreage to build this course and subdivision. Jim and Ross put up the money to obtain an option to purchase the ground.

Now, with the purchase of the ground assured, Jim and Ross proceeded to form the Butte Creek Estates Corporation. Stock in the corporation was sold to interested people… that is, people interested in seeing the golf course developed. Stockholders hoped to recover their investments by sale of the lots after the subdivision was completed. Enough money was raised to complete the purchase of the ground and the deed was recorded August 30, 1962.
Next, proprietary memberships in Butte Creek Country Club were sold. Memberships were $1,450.00. The first 100 members - Charter Members - are listed on the framed scroll in the Clubhouse. Many of us joined prior to commencement of construction and in a sense, we, too, are Charter Members, but only the first 100 memberships are listed.
It is impossible to list all of the people who gave hours and days of time, loaned equipment, money and expertise to the development of this beautiful championship course. Members of the Butte Creek Estates met many times at the Hotel Oaks to work out problems to keep the dream alive.
Bob Baldock was hired as golf course architect, John Engan was hired as golf course superintendent and things got underway. Larry "Prof" Thompson was hired to design the first buildings with future expansion planned. The first building was what is now the Pro Shop, locker rooms and card room. Several years passed before the original Clubhouse was built.
Members contributed to the purchase of mowers and other necessary equipment. The building of this wonderful golf course was an enormous undertaking. Many, many hurdles had to be overcome. Money, or the lack of it, was a constant problem.
The course opened for play in April, 1965. Keith Eynon had been hired as our "Pro". The "back nine" opened April 21, 1965, and the second or "front nine" opened by the end of May. Because of dedication and hard work of many, many people, the dream of Butte Creek Country Club came true.
Prior to February 1976, Butte Creek Country Club leased the real property from Butte Creek Estates Corporation. On February 4, 1976, Butte Creek Estates deeded the Country Club, our golf course as we know it, to Butte Creek Country Club. What a remarkable gift!
